The University of Calabar Student Union Government Senate, has elected new principal officers following the impeachment of its former leaders.

Sen. Obidomnic Bofa was elected Senate President, while Sen. Odey Philip Aptra became the new Sergeant-at-Arms.

The election is coming after the impeachment of former Senate President Sen. Agiah Pius Abang and Sergeant-at-Arms Sen. Ogar Edwin Elaunire on December 12th, 2024, over constitutional breaches and misconduct.

In a statement sent to Street News on Monday, the new leaders have pledged to uphold the SUG constitution and serve the students’ interests.

“Following the impeachment of the senate president ,Sen.Agiah Pius Abang, and sergeant at arms, Sen.Ogar Edwin Elaunire, during the plenary session held on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, an emergency plenary session was convened on Friday December, 13th 2024.

“The purpose of this session is
to nominate, elect, and inaugurate principal officers to fill the vacant positions and ensure the effective functionality of the 11 the efficacious senate. “-The statement reads in parts.
