The Bakassi International Fish Festival team, along with its Board of Trustees, has warmly congratulated Hon. Effiong Etim Okon on his recent swearing-in as Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area.

In a statement, issued on Monday , the team expressed admiration for Hon. Effiong’s dedication and proactive leadership, particularly recalling his impactful role as the former Director-General of Waterways.

Founder of the Bakassi International Fish Festival, Frank Edima, highlighted Hon. Effiong’s support during his time at Waterways, saying he played a key role in empowering Bakassi’s fishing community.

She recalled how he facilitated the donation of a boat and aqua engine to the festival team, which greatly boosted their capacity to support local fishermen and further celebrate Bakassi’s fishing heritage.

“His actions strengthened our commitment to sustainable community growth,” Edima said. “It showed his deep connection to the values and aspirations of the Bakassi people.”

The Bakassi International Fish Festival has become a staple event for the community, celebrating the rich fishing culture of Bakassi, attracting tourists, and driving local commerce.

As one of the leading platforms in a fishing community, the festival promotes local businesses, artisans, and sustainable fishing practices, while creating economic opportunities for the people of Bakassi. Hon. Effiong’s past contributions have already positively impacted this mission, and his new position as Chairman presents even greater opportunities for collaboration and growth.

The festival team also pledged their commitment to working closely with the Chairman’s administration to align their efforts with the goals of the local government.

In their congratulatory message, they expressed optimism about achieving new milestones under Hon. Effiong’s leadership that will benefit the local economy and community welfare.
