A disturbing video has gone viral on social media, showing a young woman being brutally assaulted and stripped naked by another young woman in Cross River State.
The victim, identified as Queen, was allegedly attacked by a young woman known as Evelyn Duke, popularly called “Pretty Goddess” on Facebook, who accused her of sleeping with her boyfriend.
The video showed Evelyn Duke and her friends beating Queen, tearing off her clothes, and leaving her naked. The attackers also recorded the incident and shared it on social media, further humiliating the victim.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for justice for Queen. Human rights activists and gender-based violence advocates have condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric” and “unacceptable”.
INVESTIGATION BY STREETNEWS
In unraveling the circumstances on the matter, StreetNews gathered that in early April 2024, Evelyn Duke, had physically assaulted one Blessing Walter on allegations of having an affair with her boyfriend.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Blessing Walter, she noted that Evelyn Duke had physically beaten her, taken pictures, and threatened to allegedly kill her if she continued to meet with her boyfriend.
She said “Evelyn Duke beat me up, she took me on a Sunday to Atamunu, and beat me up.
“She ganged up and beat me with allegations that I slept with her boyfriend, and that I am a bad friend, I know where she stays whenever she does that she will always run to her boyfriend’s house.
“Even the polo I wore that day I have it as evidence, that’s what she does, she is very mean and wicked.”
Our correspondent had reached out to Queen through a phone call but her brother picked up.
He said “my sister was beaten by Pretty Goddess the boyfriend, his name is Richard, the girlfriend beat up my sister, I swear I will not accept unless I am not alive”.
Calls put across to Evelyn Duke was rejected. Her phone numbers were subsequently switched off. She however ignored messages sent by our correspondent.
In a related development, the Cross River State Police Command has ordered that Investigations be commenced into the matter.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP UGBO IRENE, on Thursday, it disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has directed an immediate investigation into the matter to uncover the truth and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Police Commissioner also called on those involved in the hospitality industry, to be vigilant and take proactive measures in profiling and conducting background checks on their guests to prevent such incidents from occurring within their premises.
“The Cross River State Police Command wishes to address the recent viral video circulating on social media, which depicts a girl, identified as Miss Queen, being subjected to physical assault by a group of girls while in a hotel room. The girl, visibly half-naked in the video, is being flogged for reasons that are currently under investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, PSC, FCAI, has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter. The aim is to uncover the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The Commissioner of Police also calls upon all those involved in the hospitality industry to be vigilant and take proactive measures in profiling and conducting background checks on their guests. This step is crucial in preventing such disturbing incidents from occurring within their premises.
“In the meantime, the victim has been provided with the necessary medical attention and is receiving care at a hospital.
“The Cross River State Police Command assures the public that the outcome of the investigation will be communicated promptly. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and upholding justice in our society.”- It read.
