Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has relieved Prof. Victor Ecoma of his appointment as the Head of Department (HoD) of Fine and Applied Arts.

A release issued on Monday by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, stated that the sacking was due to the failure of Ecoma to present students from his department for the convocation ceremony.

“As a result, the university administration has found it necessary to terminate his appointment with immediate effect.

“In light of this development, the Vice Chancellor has promptly directed Prof. Ecoma to hand over all university properties in his possession to his successor, Prof. Echeta Christian Chemezie, who has been appointed to assume the position,” the release stated.

The institution was reported to have recorded the highest number of First Class graduates during its 36th convocation ceremony which held on March 21 and March 22, 2024.

The institution conferred awards to about 8,415 first degree graduates out of which 32 were conferred with first class honours and 745 Masters graduates.
