The Seventh Day Adventist Church has taken a significant step in recognizing the invaluable contributions of environmental sanitation workers in Cross River State. Under the theme “Helping Hand,” the church honored these unsung heroes during a special service held at their conference headquarters in Calabar.
Pastor Trust Ama, the church preacher for the day, presented the workers with various gift items, including reflective jackets, gloves, gift bags, and food.
The organizing team expressed that this action is aimed to support their work and celebrate their dedication to keeping the environment clean.
“We see these workers coming out every morning, even in the cold, to make sure our environment is clean. Today, during our annual Community Guest Day, we choose to honour them and their selfless service to our community so that they know we see and appreciate them” the team said.
The recipients, including street sweepers and evacuators, were visibly moved by the gesture, with some expressing gratitude for being recognized. Mrs. Angela Okon, a beneficiary, noted that it was the first time they had been acknowledged for their efforts, which has boosted their morale. Another recipient, Mr. Reuben Agba, shared his struggles with the church leadership when he narrated the challenges they face, including life-threatening situations while on duty, and how they are often disregarded by the community.
The event concluded with a group photograph and a meal session.
