A team of security agencies comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, and The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp has commenced a show of force at the main campus of the University Of Cross River State ahead of the planned nationwide protests beginning August 1.

Our correspondent observed that in the early hours of Wednesday, many trucks of fully armed security officers were seen parading the University Campus.

The show of force caused confusion among the University students, who it was gathered had to run for safety.

Street News had reported that the University management had ordered the closure of the campus over the planned Protest.

In a circular no 433 dated July 26th 2024, signed by the university management titled ” CLOSURE OF UNIVERSITY FOR TWO WEEKS”, the closure it was reported, is  aimed at ensuring the protection of student life as well as the University property.

“In view of the planned nationwide protest being organized by some civil society organization and others in the country effective August 01, 2024, in order to ensure the safety of the lives of our students, the management of the university has decided to give a two (2) weeks to the students with effect from Tuesday 30th July, 2024.

“Consequently, all lectures, examinations, tests and other academic activities will be suspended as from that date.

” Students are advised to vacate their hall of residence immediately this break takes effect. Normal Activities will resume on Monday, August 12,2024″- the circular reads.
