The Presidency has dismissed as false and misleading recent reports suggesting that George Akume has been removed from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
This is coming after many reports had alleged that the SGF resigned in other to become the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, described the claims as “fake news” deliberately fabricated by “agents of mischief.”
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement read. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.”
Onanuga urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and to remain vigilant against the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media platforms and other unverified channels.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” he said,
George Akume, a former Governor of Benue State and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, was appointed SGF by President Tinubu in June 2023.
