Police Warn Politicians From Using IGP’S Name To Intimidate Others

The Nigerian Police Force has warned politicians, to desist from using the name of Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun the Inspector General of Police in intimidating people.

This is coming after a serving lawmaker, in the House Of Representatives, Honorable Alex Ifeanyi Ikewechegh, on Sunday had repeatedly slapped a bolt driver in his Maitama residence Abuja.

Ikewechegh member representing Aba North/South Federal Constituency, was seen assaulting the bolt driver in a video posted by Martin Otse populary called VeryDarkMan.

Trouble started, when the bolt driver had gone to the residence of the lawmaker to deliver snails which he had ordered.

On arrival, he called the lawmaker to come out of his residence to get his product.

Ikewechegh who was said to be agitated by the call suddenly accused the driver of insulting him, by not bringing the snails into his residence.

The bolt driver argued that it was not his duty to bring orders into people’s residence but insisted on getting his money for the delivery.

Angered by his response, the lawmaker slapped the bolt driver, and attempted in using a stick to assault him.

He said “Do you know where you are? Do you know who you talking to? My friend I’m a senator of these Republic.

“I can make this man disappear in the whole Nigeria and nothing will happen. I won’t pay you one Naira of my money.

“In response the bolt driver said ” you have been insulting me i have been quiet, please sir all I am asking for is that you pay me my money let me leave”.

The senator proceeded by saying ” I am not going to call my police to beat you up, i will beat you up and lock you up in my generator house.

“Record me very well, you can call the Inspector General of Police and nothing will happen, You are very stupid”-He said.

In a statement issued on Monday morning on X app by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi the Force Public Relations Officer, that Police Force is urging the public to refrain from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others, as such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGP’s office upholds.

“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident between a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, which took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja.” The FCT Command is actively handling the case following Mr. Abuwatseya’s official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.

“The Police Force also urges the public to refrain from using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate others, as such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGP’s office upholds.”- It reads.

Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh is a Nigerian politician. He is the founder of GrossField Group, Alex Ikwechegh foundation and a former Local Government Chairman of Aba North, Abia. He is a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance.
