operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, have dismantled a notorious kidnapping and car-snatching syndicate during a well-coordinated raid in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area, of Anambra State.
The operation, which took place on Friday followed credible intelligence received by the command. Four suspects, including a woman, were arrested at the hideout, while several incriminating items were recovered.
Recovered items include three suspected stolen vehicles: a black Lexus GS 350 (Reg. No. ENU 561 LY), an ash-coloured Toyota Camry (Reg. No. UWN 614 HK), and a navy blue Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. UMZ 135 AD). Police operatives also found an HP laptop, a car-spraying machine, various motor wires, and quantities of methamphetamine—commonly known as Mkpurummiri—at the scene.
The suspects were identified as Chigozie Udolisa a.k.a. T. Dollars, Anaolu Joseph a.k.a. Blue, Chukwuka Udolisa a.k.a. Udokamiri, and Chinaza Udemezue. They are all within the age bracket of 19 to 28 years.
During preliminary interrogation, all four suspects confessed to being members of a gang involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and car theft. Chinaza Udemezue revealed that her boyfriend, also a gang member, managed to escape with their weapons after spotting the approaching police operatives.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation, as investigators work to trace and apprehend additional accomplices who are currently on the run.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the development, praised the operatives for their swift action. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities across the state.
“We are committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring our communities remain safe,” Ikenga said. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to support our operations.”
