The National Youth Service Corp on Saturday held a nationwide sanitation exercise, aimed at addressing hygiene problems as well as keeping the environment clean.
Our correspondent who was in Akure, the Ondo State capital, observed that at about 7am, Corp members in their numbers had converged at democracy park, in Oja Akure South Local Government Area to officially flag off the exercise.
Speaking during the morning exercise, the Ondo State NYSC coordinator, Mr Samuel Amaramiro Pepple (ACIPM), said the sanitation is aimed at enhancing a cleaner environment.
He said that as a scheme, the NYSC had found it necessary to assist communities in cleaning their environment, sensitize citizens on personal cleanliness and hygiene, and hold medical talk counseling for the benefit of all.
Mr Sam advised Corp members to take their national assignment seriously, and support the scheme in achieving its set goals and objectives.
He said “The essence of sanitation is not just to keep the environment clean but it is targeted at educating people on personal hygiene.
“When our environment is clean, we live healthier, and when we are healthy we are happy. Let’s keep our environment clean, while going around please do not just clean up, but also sensitize them on environmental cleanliness”.- He said
Our correspondent understands that the sanitation exercise is a directives from the NYSC director general Brigadier General YD Ahmed, and is being held in all the 36 states of the federation.
