First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has hit a deep message showing concern over the choice of Meghan Markle’s dress sense during her recent visit with her husband, Prince Harry. She shared this message on Saturday at an event in Abuja tagged “Celebrating the Woman,” organised as part of activities to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.

The event was specially put together to recognize the women have made significant contributions in their various spheres of life, communities and in the nation at large.

The video of her message has since been circulated on the internet where she said “The message here is that we have to salvage our children. We see the way they dress. They keep forgetting that in Nigeria, we are beautiful. You can see what they showcase on the stage. I said they are fashionable. We see what is going on. We are not having a Met Gala. Their nakedness is just everywhere, and the men are well clothed. Tell them the way it is. We don’t accept nakedness in our culture. That is not beautiful. They are mimicking and trying to emulate film stars from America. Why did Meghan come here looking for Africa? That is something we have to take home with. We know who we are. Don’t lose who you are.”.

In another message, she said, “We must nurture our children, instill good morals, and preserve our cultural values. Today, we honor women who have significantly contributed to our nation’s development. Every woman, regardless of age, is a mother, a nurturer, and a builder. Without intervention, our society risks losing its identity. I urge all women to be unifying forces in their homes and communities, drawing inspiration from the pioneering women who paved the way.”

Following the speech, one royal fan on X, wrote: “Meghan Markle managed to create an international incident! We warned her about the clothes.”

Prince Harry and Meghan had been invited to Nigeria by its highest-ranking military official to showcase the causes they care most about – including the Invictus Games. After meeting the official, Christopher Musa, at the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Meghan signed a guest book thanking officials for “welcoming me home”. Before their visit, Meghan was also reported to have traced her roots to Nigeria.
