In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Okoye Henry, the Command confirmed that disciplinary action has been taken against the officers involved.

“Following a review of the video, the Command conducted an orderly room trial in accordance with Nigeria Police Force disciplinary procedures. Sergeant Anayo Ekezie was found guilty of using his issued smoke gunner during the assault and has been demoted to the rank of Corporal,” the statement said.

It added that Inspectors Obongha and Okereke were severely reprimanded for failing to exercise proper supervisory control, which enabled the unprofessional conduct to occur.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemned the officers’ actions, describing them as a violation of the Force’s Code of Conduct and human rights standards. He reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy on police misconduct and assured the public that appropriate sanctions would be enforced against any erring personnel.

The Command also encouraged the public to report any incidents of police misconduct through the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), X-Squad Unit, or by calling 08033424051 or 08148024755.

“The Command remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and the protection of citizens’ rights,” the statement concluded.
