Gunmen have killed a man, identified as Eko Okpantum, at the Ijiman community Ugep in Yakurr Local Government Area, of Cross River State.
In a Facebook post made by Odey Ojeka, the deceased a native of Lepankom Ijiman Ugep was shot dead on Sunday at the Apostolic Primary School field by unknown people.
Eyewitnesses report that the shooting occurred around 9:50 pm, with multiple gunshots heard by residents living nearby. The victim, Eko, was found with a gunshot wound to his right lap, close to his scrotum.
The scene was met with an outpouring of grief, as family, friends, and community members gathered to mourn the loss of the young man.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo could not be reached as calls made to her telephone were not responded to. A text Whatapp message sent to her was yet to be replied to as of the time of filling this report.
