Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has mandated the swift relocation of families and the demolition of structures within the zones affected by the ongoing Uyo-Ewet gully erosion reclamation and beautification project. This order comes after the contracting firm confirmed that phase one of the recreational park is progressing well.

During an unscheduled visit to the project site, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Lands, Captain Iniobong Ekong, to ensure prompt relocation to facilitate the smooth implementation of the project plan. He highlighted that the project not only tackles a major gully erosion issue by reclaiming the once inaccessible and life-threatening ravine but also aims to create wealth from waste.

Despite the demanding month-long anniversary activities, which concluded on May 29, the Governor toured the site, emphasizing the need to prune trees and forests within the area to achieve the desired scenic atmosphere. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured that the completed facility would provide a valuable relaxation spot for children and parents from within and outside the state.

Chief Faysal Harb, Managing Director of Bulletine Construction Company Limited, detailed that phase one of the recreational park, featuring a golf course, football pitch, lawn tennis court, basketball, volleyball, and children’s playground, is progressing well.

During his first visit months ago, the Governor had observed the complete collapse of the Udo Inwang Street axis at the Etim Okon Usanga intersection and promised that the transformed ravine would become a recreational facility attracting tourists. The visit revealed that previously collapsed and inaccessible areas had been restored and made passable, including extensions added to prevent the collapse of the Uyo Custodial Centre.
