Former EFCC Chairman Dies At 61

A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, has died at the age of 61. According to sources, Lamorde passed away in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment.

Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Inspector General of Police before his retirement in 2021. During his time in the police force, he served as the EFCC chairman from 2011 to 2015.

Lamorde’s tenure as EFCC chairman was marked by several high-profile corruption cases, including the prosecution of former government officials and politicians. He was succeeded by Ibrahim Magu, who took over as acting chairman in 2015. Before his appointment as EFCC chairman, Lamorde served as the pioneer Director of Operations when the agency was established in 2003. He later returned to the EFCC as Director of Operations in 2010, before becoming acting chairman in 2011 and subsequently substantive chairman in 2012.

Ibrahim Lamorde’s death has been met with tributes from various quarters, with many praising his contributions to the fight against corruption in Nigeria. He is survived by his family and colleagues, who will miss his dedication and commitment to public service. May he rest in peace.
