There was chaos on Friday morning, at the University Of Cross River State as a fight broke out during the university campfire night.

The camp fire night, street news understands, is a part of activities lined up for the student week.

Street news gathered, from multiple sources, that at about 12:48am, at the hall 1 female hostel, trouble started when an unidentified male student allegedly tried to assist a female student in getting into her hostel.

On sighting it, the school security attempted to prevent him. During the drama, the student was said to have allegedly challenged the security.

In an attempt to calm the tension, the student was allegedly beaten, as a result violence erupted, causing many students to run and skamper for safety.

Speaking in pidgin exclusively to street news, a source who preferred animosity said ” e get one guy, and one girl them been dey dance, so the girl don tire. So him rush, try to carry the girl go female hostel.

” Na so security for school see am, them come ask am why e dey carry girl go female hostel by that time. So him come dey shout, dey ginger, na so them slap am, beat am him come ginger people comot come, dey shout na so fight burst everybody run, everywhere scatter “.- The source said.

Also narrating the ordeal another source who preferred not to be mentioned accused that the hostel Governor was allegedly drunk, and couldn’t control the crowd.

” The hostel Governor drank, he couldn’t control himself, he was even shouting, and when the fight broke out me I had to run, because some bad guys with guns, even machet even shoot, security men fight with them, no be small. “

When Our correspondent contacted the school public relations officer of the university, Mr Onen Onen, he said he had not received any information, he then directed our correspondent to contact the Chief security officer.

“I have not received any information like that, even if it happened I am not aware, nobody has told me or briefed me, please reach out to the CSO if you have his number”.

At the time of filing this report, all efforts through phone calls, text and Whatsapp messages sent to the chief security officer proved abortive.
