Election: Police Restricts Movement In Edo

In preparation for the Governorship elections scheduled to hold tommorow Saturday September 21st, the Nigerian Force has ordered the restriction of vehicular and human movement in Benin the Edo State capital.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the restriction is to
ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.

He noted the restriction of all vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day, will help in sustaining peace, as well as maintain the integrity of the elections.

Exceptions will be made for essential services, including accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.

“In preparation for the election, the IGP has ordered the restriction of all vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day. Exceptions will be made for essential services, including accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.

Furthermore, the IGP has mandated that special attention be afforded to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, aged, and those with mobility challenges, ensuring that polling stations in both urban and rural settings are accessible to all.

Street News gathered, that there was high presence of security personnels stationed along the the Benin Expressway on Friday.

In a video seen by Streetnews, police officers were seen displaying a show of force, and chanting songs in preparedness for the Governorship elections.
