Buhari’s Body Leaves London for Daura

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has departed London en route to his hometown, Daura in Katsina State, for final burial rites, following his passing in the United Kingdom.

Sources at the Nigerian High Commission in London confirmed that the remains were airlifted from Heathrow Airport aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft at exactly 7:45 am  local time, accompanied by close family members, diplomatic officials, and senior aides.

A brief but solemn farewell ceremony was held prior to the departure, with prayers offered in accordance with Islamic rites.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to lead a high-powered federal delegation to receive the remains at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, before they are conveyed to Daura for interment later today.

The former president, who died at the age of 82 after a protracted illness, had been in the UK for medical attention. His death was officially announced on Sunday night by the Presidency, sparking a wave of tributes from across the globe.
