In a shocking move, Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all boards and commissions in the state, effective October 3, 2025. The decision was announced in a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.

According to the press release, the governor cited Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law 2023 as the basis for the dissolution. The governor expressed gratitude to the chairmen and members of the dissolved boards and commissions for their contributions to the ARISE AGENDA and wished them well in their future endeavors.

This development comes after Governor Eno had threatened to dissolve all boards and commissions in June 2024, citing concerns over accountability and lack of engagement with the state government. The governor had expressed frustration with some board chairmen who had not met with him or submitted reports, and had vowed to set up new boards that would be accountable to him.

The dissolution of the boards and commissions is seen as a major shake-up in the state’s governance structure, and is likely to have significant implications for the state’s development agenda.
