According to the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the move is aimed at enhancing security, curbing criminal hideouts, and restoring the aesthetics of the estate, which has suffered neglect due to overgrown and uncompleted structures.

“The Ministry of Housing and the Akwa Ibom State Property and Investment Company (APICO) have been directed to enforce compliance,” the statement read. “Failure to commence meaningful development within the stipulated time will attract appropriate sanctions, including revocation.”

The government noted that the estate, originally designed as a prime residential area in the capital city, has seen increasing complaints from residents and urban planning authorities over long-abandoned plots and derelict buildings.

At the same meeting, the Executive Council also considered updates on youth welfare, investment portfolios, and preparations for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival.
