The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has directed supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to return to their respective wards for a comprehensive revalidation of their party membership ahead of the 2027 elections.
This is part of the move to strengthen the (APC) base in Akwa Ibom ahead of the 2027 general elections, as well as the Governor has reaffirmed loyalty to the party.
The governor issued the directive during his familiarization visit to the APC State Secretariat in Uyo, the state capital, yesterday.
Eno announced that the membership revalidation exercise would commence on August 4, 2025, and last for one month, with registers expected to be distributed to all 329 political wards in the state through the ward chairmen.
He said the exercise was essential to verify the true strength of the party at the grassroots level and put an end to internal speculation and pretense among political actors.
“This revalidation is necessary to determine who our true members are. After this exercise, the issue of camouflage and pretence will be laid to rest,” the governor said.
Governor Eno, who is the leader of the party in the state, emphasized that every member regardless of their position, influence, or how long they had been in the party must take part in the process. He added that a digital biometric capturing of members would follow, in line with directives from the APC national secretariat.
He also used the occasion to caution against internal divisions, urging party members to prioritize unity and the collective good of the state.
“We must show commitment to the party, work together with a unity of purpose, and stop all forms of internal bickering. Our focus should be the growth of the APC and the progress of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
Highlighting efforts by the Federal Government, the governor praised President Bola Tinubu for stabilizing the economy and supporting states financially.
“President Tinubu means well for this country. Two years after taking office, things are stabilizing. We, the governors, know this because we are getting funds and are able to execute projects and pay gratuities,” Eno stated.
He further called on party members to support the re-election of APC leaders including Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and other party candidates in the 2027 polls.
As part of his visit, the governor inaugurated a 10-member committee tasked with identifying land, mobilizing resources, and developing a befitting permanent secretariat for the APC in the state.
The committee is chaired by Monday Ebong and includes other prominent members such as ikperikpe Ekpo, Nsima Ekere, Ita Enang, Rt Hon Unyime Idem, and Asam Asam.
Earlier, the State APC Chairman, Stephen Ntukekpo, commended Governor Eno for his humility and inclusive leadership. He described the governor’s visit and actions as symbolic of grace, unity, and a new chapter in Akwa Ibom politics.
Ntukekpo added that the governor had broken boundaries and built bridges across party lines, rekindling hope in the political system.
