Nigerian Universities Lecturers Down Tools as ASUU Strike Begins

A ghastly accident on Monday  in Calabar the Cross River State capital claimed the lives of two persons.

It was gathered that the  crash which occurred about 2am on the popular MCC Road involved a white Mercedes Benz GLk.

Our correspondent learnt that the victims numbering six, were heavily drunk  on their way back from a club.

It was further learnt that the two dead victims are students who graduated in 2023 from the department of Nursing University Of Calabar.

Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on speeding by the drunk  driver of the Mercedes which ran into a pole.

 However, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Chidi Nkwonta, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident and said initially six persons were in the car, while two died.

“Yes it is true, the accident is very serious. We have to confirm that six people were in the car.

“But as we speak we can confirm the death of two persons. They were coming back from the club drunk.

“We are trying to see how we can revive the remaining four who are in the hospital currently”.-She said.
