Abuja, February 23, 2024 — The Nigeria Police Force has taken significant action against officers attached to its Special Tactical Squad in Abuja who were involved in extorting N30 million from a citizen. The case of extortion came to light through the X platform, prompting swift investigations and arrests.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, some officers from the Special Tactical Squad extorted a member of the public, demanding a staggering sum of N30.3 million. Their actions were promptly reported via the X platform, leading to an investigation into their unprofessional conduct.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered disciplinary proceedings to ensure justice is served swiftly and decisively. “The Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward misconduct or corruption within its ranks. Violations of public trust tarnish not only the Force’s reputation but also undermine collective efforts to maintain law and order in the country” he said.
“The NPF recognizes that transparency and accountability are paramount in maintaining public trust. The arrested officers and their accomplices are currently in custody, facing consequences for their actions. The commitment to upholding integrity remains unwavering.”
