“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, effective today, 24th August 2025. This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state. I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals. I pledge to remain committed to my duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency,” Dojah wrote.

Although the reason behind the sudden resignation was not immediately clear, political observers say it may not be unconnected with recent undercurrents within the Assembly and the state’s political climate.

As of press time, the House was yet to announce who would succeed Dojah as Speaker. However, consultations are said to be ongoing among members to ensure a smooth transition.

Dojah, who assumed the speakership last year, is the latest high-profile political figure in Benue to bow to pressure amid shifting political alignments in the state.
