…FG directs MDAs to open condolence registers nationwide

President Bola Tinubu has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the planning and coordination of a state burial for former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The committee, which is chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, comprises other cabinet members, heads of security agencies, and presidential aides.
The move is in line with the federal governmentโs resolve to honour the late elder statesman with a befitting farewell.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, the presidency disclosed that the state funeral arrangements will be handled by a broad-based team drawn from key ministries and agencies.
Members of the committee include the Ministers of Finance, Defence, Works, Interior, FCT, Information, Housing, Budget and Economic Planning, as well as the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Chief of Defence Staff, among others.
The Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), will serve as the Secretariat of the committee.
President Tinubu also directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the federation to open condolence registers at the entrances of their offices, allowing members of the public to pay their last respects to the late President.
In addition, a central condolence register will be opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, for members of the diplomatic corps and the general public.
The statement added that further updates on the funeral activities will be released in due course.
