Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a notorious cultist allegedly behind multiple violent crimes, including murder, abduction, and armed robbery in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Chukwujekwu Micheal Okoye, popularly known as ‘Bus-Stop’, was apprehended on July 7, 2025, following intelligence-led operations by the police team based in Awkuzu.
According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the 25-year-old suspect confessed to being a ranking member referred to as a “Lord” in the Aye Confraternity cult group.
He also admitted to coordinating a planned cult initiation and rival attack scheduled for the same day he was arrested.
The suspect is said to have played a key role in the June 19 attack in Oko, which left two people dead, two others injured, and another two abducted. The victims were later released after ransom payments. The attack occurred around the Total Junction and Tipper Junction areas of the town.
Ikenga noted that the police have intensified efforts to track down other members of the criminal gang as part of broader plans to dismantle the cult network operating across the state.
“We are closing in on other gang members. Our aim is to root out these elements threatening public safety and restore peace in Oko and its environs,” Ikenga stated.
He assured residents that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
