The planned NEC meeting, which was  approved during the 99th session of the committee on May 27, has recently been mired in controversy following the circulation of a purported notice claiming the meeting had been converted to a “Special Expanded National Caucus.”

Addressing journalists at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, Deputy National Chairman (South),  Taofeek Arapaja, reiterated that the 100th NEC meeting will go on as scheduled.

He noted that no individual or organ within the party has the authority to alter the decision.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the date for the 100th NEC meeting  Monday, June 30, 2025   is binding on all organs and members of our party, by virtue of Section 31(3) of the PDP Constitution”.- Arapaja stated.

He emphasized that the PDP remains guided by its constitution, which provides no room for any entity called an “Expanded National Caucus.” The NWC noted that Section 30 of the party’s constitution clearly outlines the structure and functions of the National Caucus, with no provision for expansion.

“The suggestion or announcement of an ‘Expanded National Caucus’ meeting is therefore unconstitutional, null, and cannot take any decision on behalf of the PDP,” Arapaja added.

The NWC called on members to disregard distractions and remain focused on the goal of rebuilding the party’s internal unity and democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The PDP is a party founded on the principles of rule of law, due process, and internal democracy,” Arapaja concluded. “Those values must be preserved at all times.”-He concluded.
