The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps Shehu Mohammed, has issued warned to motorists, to desist from offering bribes to patrol operatives and to instead pay fines through the designated banking system.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Corps Marshal emphasized the FRSC’s zero-tolerance policy on bribery and corruption, describing such acts as a clear violation of the Corps’ ethics, values, and standard operating procedures.
Mohammed noted that any motorist found attempting to bribe an FRSC officer would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the FRSC Establishment Act (2007). “The Corps does not, and will not, tolerate any form of corruption whatsoever,” he stated.
Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to transparency, the Corps Marshal reminded the public that all traffic violation fines are to be paid into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) through designated banks, not to individual personnel.
“Being an organisation that upholds the highest level of transparency in its operations, the Corps has had enough of motorists trying to circumvent the law by offering bribes to its personnel,” he said.
Mohammed also warned FRSC staff, against soliciting or accepting bribes from road users. He encouraged members of the public to report any officer found engaging in such misconduct.
While commending citizens who have responsibly flagged misconduct without resorting to violence, Mohammed reiterated the Corps’ commitment to maintaining integrity, professionalism, and the rule of law in all its operations.
“The public is admonished to comply with all traffic regulations on the movement of persons, animals, and goods on Nigerian roads,” the Corps Marshal added.
