The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man identified as Maduka for allegedly stealing copper wires and other electrical cables in Fegge, Onitsha.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu acted on credible intelligence and apprehended the suspect around 4:15 p.m. on June 14, 2025.
“Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, acting on credible information on June 14, 2025, at about 4:15 p.m., arrested one Maduka ‘M’, aged 40, at Fegge, Onitsha — a suspected dealer in vandalized electrical equipment,” the statement read.
Recovered items include several bags of vandalized copper wires, large quantities of high-tension cables, copper coils, and other transformer components.
Ikenga added that the suspect had confessed and provided information on the locations where the stolen items were being sold in Ogun and Lagos States. The investigation is currently being expanded to trace other accomplices and buyers linked to the crime.
