Community leaders in Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State gathered in a spirit of celebration and appreciation as they honored Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong for his outstanding performance during his first year in office.

The Senator representing the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State received accolades and commendations at a well-attended town hall meeting organized by his constituency office to mark this significant milestone.

The paramount ruler of Akpabuyo Local Government Area (LGA), Etinyin Maurice Effiom, delivered a heartfelt eulogy of the Senator’s remarkable achievements. In an eloquent Efik proverb, he likened Senator Ekpenyong to a good child who always returns home, signifying the Senator’s firm commitment to serving his constituents. “From the lips of the poor to the voice of kings,” Etinyin Maurice Effiom declared, “you have done well.”

Hon. Edem Effiom, a former Commissioner for Rural Development, addressed the challenges faced during pre-election and election periods. He hinted about the unfortunate incidents of violence, property damage, and loss of lives. He further urged the Senator to acknowledge and compensate those affected. Hon. Edem Effiom also emphasized the importance of addressing these issues transparently.

In the same vein, Hon. Effiom Bassey Effiong, the Financial Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, applauded Senator Ekpenyong’s efforts. He also advocated for the inclusion of indigenous companies in intervention programs and contract awards, stating that there is a need to support local businesses.

The meeting witnessed the presence of other notable figures, including Hon. Bassey Bassey (Member representing Akpabuyo State Constituency) and Mrs. Abigail Duke (Commissioner for Commerce). Traditional rulers, youth representatives, and men and women from Akpabuyo actively participated in the dialogue to celebrate Senator Ekpenyong’s achievements and discussed ways to build on this positive momentum.

In his closing remarks, Senator Ekpenyong reaffirmed his dedication to providing quality representation, promptly addressing raised concerns, and maintaining ongoing communication with constituents for progress and community development.
