The Akwa Ibom State Government has ordered the immediate extension of tenure for Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, secretaries and members of its transition committee in all the 31 local Government Areas of the state.

In a public notice issued by Prince Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State (SGF) Government on late Thursday evening, the extension Uwah said is as a result of the resolution by the state house of assembly.

He noted this in line with the arise agenda of Governor Umo’s administration as it is a way of delivering effective “people-centric” governance for the grass root level.

“Consequent upon the resolution of the Akwa Ibom State State House of Assembly on the master of extension of the tenure of the transition administration of local government council’s, the house has granted the Governor powers to extend the tenure of the transition committees of the local government area for the next six months.

” This extension is based on the conclusions of the House of assembly’s visit to the 31 local government areas as well as the verification team up by his Excellency , the Governor to authenticate projects so far executed by the transition Chairmen.

” His Excellency, the Governor expects the transition council Chairmen will ensure the delivery of effective people-centric governance at the grassroots level, in line with the arise agenda”.- It reads in part.
