The Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Mbah, paid a courtesy visit on the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, to discuss critical developments aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and operational capacity of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
During the meeting, the Honourable Minister outlined plans for a concession and the establishment of a full cargo processing hub designed to serve the entire South East region. This initiative is set to significantly enhance the region’s logistics and trade capabilities, providing a much-needed boost to local economies.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah humorously referenced Enugu State’s catchphrase, “Tomorrow is here,” emphasizing that the future holds no bounds and that progressive steps are being taken today to secure a prosperous tomorrow.
In line with these steps, Governor Peter Mbah proposed a strategic beautification project for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport environment. This involves reclaiming specific areas of the airport currently concessioned to private oil companies. The Governor believes this move will enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the airport premises.
Additionally, Governor Mbah sought the Minister’s approval for a collaborative effort with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to complete the long-abandoned pilot lounge. He underscored that this collaboration not only promises to reinvigorate airport amenities but is also projected to bolster revenue generation for the state.
The Governor expressed his optimistic vision for the future, hoping to invite the Honourable Minister for the commissioning of these transformative projects within the next six months.
The collaborative spirit and shared commitment between the Enugu State Government and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development are poised to drive significant infrastructural advancements that will benefit the entire South East region.
