The Cross River State House of Assembly, has reinstated and reaffirmed Hon Elvert Ayambem as speaker of its tenth house of assembly.
The reaffirment is coming days after Ayambem was impeached on allegations concerning alleged financial misappropriation of 48 Million Naira meant to pay nepa bills,for the house of assembly complex, as well as the house of assembly quarters.
He was alleged to have misappropriated 2 percent of all revenue, received by the internal revenue service, amounting to a total of four hundred and four million, six hundred and eighty three thousand and fifty naira.
Elvert was also alleged of gross misconduct, bordering on high handedness, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance and poor leadership style, financial misappropriation and inciting members against themselves.
But in a press release, issued on Monday by the Chief press secretary to the speaker, Mathew Okache, titled Cross River State House Of Assembly, Reaffirms Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem As Tenth Assembly speaker sighted by our correspondent, it noted that the impeached speaker had been reinstated, following the intervention of the State Governor Senator Prince Bassey Otu.
The Statement reads in part”
“Rt. Hon Elvert Ayambem has been unanimously reaffirmed as speaker of the tenth assembly of Cross River State.
“The reaffirmation of Ayambem followed a rapprochement brokered by the State Governor, senator Bassey Otu and critical stakeholders with the 25-member assembly in Calabar yesterday.
“Ayambem expressed his appreciation to the Governor and the concerned stakeholders for what he described as their remarkable ability to bring about peace for the stability of the state, and the house of assembly.
“The speaker emphasized the shared responsibility to collaborate for the advancements of the state, highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation among the members to make laws that will serve the common good of all Cross Riverians. He pledged to lead with integrity, decency and a focus on the welfare of all.”
