The House of Assembly has earmarked N600 million for the enhancement of healthcare facilities in a significant move towards bolstering healthcare infrastructure in Akwa Ibom state. The Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Mr. Moses Essien, representing the YPP-Ibiono constituency, disclosed this allocation during a media briefing held in Uyo on Friday. Mr. Essien emphasized that the allocated funds are specifically designated for the maintenance and improvement of state-owned healthcare facilities spread across the three senatorial districts of the state. This allocation underscores the state government’s commitment to advancing healthcare development and ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all residents.

Highlighting the state’s dedication to healthcare improvement, Mr. Essien revealed that approximately 85 percent of the 2024 budget is allocated to upgrading facilities in hospitals across Akwa Ibom. This significant investment reflects the government’s recognition of the importance of healthcare infrastructure in promoting public health and well-being.

Furthermore, Mr. Essien assured the public that the maternal and child hospital project, initiated by the previous administration, will be completed by the end of the year. He clarified that the project is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government’s MDG program and the state government, with both entities working together to ensure its successful completion. Addressing concerns about the project’s progress, Mr. Essien stated, “As the chairman of the House Committee on Health in the State House of Assembly, I have engaged with the commissioner for health on numerous occasions, and I have personally met with the governor, who has assured me of the hospital’s completion.”

The commitment of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly to healthcare development reflects the government’s prioritization of the health and well-being of its citizens. By allocating significant funds towards enhancing healthcare facilities and ensuring the completion of crucial projects like the maternal and child hospital, the state government demonstrates its dedication to improving healthcare access and quality across the state.

Residents of Akwa Ibom can look forward to the continued expansion and improvement of healthcare services, thanks to the proactive measures taken by the House of Assembly and the government. As the healthcare infrastructure evolves and expands, the state is better equipped to address the healthcare needs of its growing population and promote overall health and prosperity for all residents.
