UNICAL Overall Best Graduating Student Receives N1m Prize

He was part of the 10,117 graduating students from the University at the 2023/2024 36th Convocation Ceremony held on March 22, 2024.

Roland Osaji Takon, who emerged as the overall best-graduating student at University of Calabar, with first-class honours in History has received a cash proze of One Million Naira (N1,000,000).

He was part of the 10,117 graduating students from the University at the 2023/2024 36th Convocation Ceremony held on March 22, 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi said “Roland Takon of the Department of History and International Studies (2021/2022 Session, with Matric No.: 18/032144145 is the overall best student and valedictorian.

“He has a CGPA of 4.85 on the scale of 5. He is the proud winner of the N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) SUG Prize for the Overall Best First Class Graduate.”

Obi added that “we are awarding National Diplomas to 218 persons and Bachelor degrees to 9,722.

“Out of the 9,722 Bachelor Degrees, 46 have First Class Honours (Male 34, Female 12); 1,968 have Second Class Upper; 6,439 have Second Class Lower; 1,117 have Third Class; while 152 have Pass Degree.”

A total of 12 females were awarded 1st class degrees while 34 males also got 1st class degrees.

She said at the Post-Graduate level, 1,482 persons were awarded higher degrees and diplomas “as follows: 457 PhDs; 807 Master’s; and 218 Post-Graduate Diplomas.”

Obi said there is an improvement in this year’s graduation as the graduates represent a total of 80%.
