In his address at the Inauguration Ball on May 29th, 2023, Senator Gershom Bassey, who represents Cross River south in the 9th senate, called on the people of Cross River state to exercise patience with their new Governor, His Excellency Prince Bassey Edet Otu. The senator emphasized the need to avoid expecting too much too soon from the governor, adding that it takes time to fully implement policies and make a significant difference in governance.

Senator Bassey pointed out that successful governance is no easy feat, but if given enough time, the new administration would deliver on its promises to the people of Cross River state. He reiterated that the people must allow the governor to take the necessary steps towards development without undue pressure.

He expressed his faith in their leadership abilities and called on Cross Riverians to give them the necessary support to succeed. Senator Bassey highlighted how important it is for the state to act as one in order to achieve the much-needed progress in governance and development.
