Earlier today, a remarkable event unfolded as the former PDP Chapter Chairmen defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC). Over a thousand people from his community, including PDP ward chairmen, former councilors, and Ward and Chapter EXCOs, joined him in this transition. The APC Ward Chairman for Ward 2, Mr. Victor Eyo, warmly welcomed Hon. Stanley and his group at the APC Secretariat in Esighi, Bakassi LGA. Mr. Eyo emphasized that Stanley had made the right choice, saying, “I am glad you’ve returned to where you rightly belong.”

During the defection party, Rt. Hon. Ekpo Ekpo, SA to the Governor on Health, former House of Assembly Member, and community political leader, praised Hon. Stanley’s political strength and commitment to development. He recalled Stanley’s valuable contributions during his tenure as the Chapter Chairman of the former party. “His membership here will undoubtedly be a great asset to us,” Ekpo Ekpo affirmed.

According to him, this era calls for a people-oriented government, and the consolidation of parties is essential to support Governor Bassey Otu’s leadership. Their collective efforts have successfully achieved the 100% result of the ‘Back-To-South’ initiative.

Responding to the reasons for his resignation and subsequent defection, Stanley said that as a political enthusiast, his party was no longer serving his purpose, and that it was not the right time to continue in opposition, hence, the need to work with the incumbent government. In his words ‘a house that is divided cannot stand. Besides, Bakassi needs more unity than opposition at this point in time.”

In an event that was described as huge and massive, one of the defectors, Mr. Effiom Nyong, said the defection was necessary considering Hon. Stanley’s personality and the role he has played in Bakassi politics all these years. “The political landscape in Bakassi is witnessing a significant shift, and Hon. Stanley Edet’s decision plays a pivotal role in shaping its future.” he added.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic handover of the APC broom to Hon. Stanley with the pledge “With this broom, I pledge my allegiance to the APC and its principles. Together, we will sweep away challenges and build a stronger, more prosperous Bakassi.”

Other personalities who graced the occasion were Mr Effiong Etim Okon, SA to the Governor, Chief Gabriel Etim, Environmental Health Director (CUDA), Mr. Christopher Okokon, and NYCN Bakassi Coordinator, Sandra Efoffiong.
